Cost Management

Cost management / quantity surveying / construction cost consulting / cost engineering, is a recognized and accredited independent profession worldwide. However, it does not exist in Hungary, despite being crucial from a project’s conception to its completion. The cost manager is responsible for planning project costs, preparing the budget, and enforcing it during construction.

When an investor is considering setting up a project, we assist them in creating a realistic budget. Many projects fail after a long preparation phase because clients often do not calculate realistic figures or account for cost risks. We develop a cost plan early in the design phase and then help the designer adhere to it. At every stage of the design process, we provide cost estimates, costings, and, if required, itemized budgets tailored to the level of detail of the plans.

If a BIM model is available (or if we are commissioned to prepare it), we can extract accurate quantities from the model; otherwise, we calculate them manually. There are often significant discrepancies between the designer’s budget and ours. Keeping track of changes—whether initiated by the client, the contractor or due to technical constraints—is also a cost manager’s responsibility. The final major task is to close the project with the contractor, which is rarely free of conflict.
