The Adria Palace \u2013 Lazy Lion Bar project began with the design phase in 2024, and construction started in early 2025. This historic, neo-Baroque-style building with an inner courtyard once served as the headquarters of the Adria Hungarian Royal Shipping Company. The developer is renovating the building in several phases: in the first phase, the facade and roof structure were restored, after which the focus shifted to the creation of the Lazy Lion, a private, exclusive speakeasy bar, in the ground-floor retail space of the Zolt\u00e1n Street wing of the building.<\/p>\n
What makes this project special is its high-quality, world-class interior design: the Barcelona-based Astet studio has created an exceptionally distinctive and unique world. The interiors feature handcrafted tiles\u2014no two of which are alike\u2014as well as one-of-a-kind glass mosaics and frescoes created on-site by a painter, all of which sensitively complement the historic surroundings.<\/p>\n
The renovation of this existing historic building presented numerous technical challenges, particularly in terms of complying with regulatory standards and permitting requirements. An amended building permit was required for the occupancy permit process, and we handled the HVE procedure in-house. An additional layer of complexity arose from the fact that even the smallest modification had to be coordinated with the foreign interior designer from a design perspective, while the client\u2019s top priority was staying within the budget and optimizing costs without compromising the envisioned \u201clook and feel.\u201d<\/p>\n
We are particularly proud to have been part of an international project of such high architectural quality, where the historic surroundings and contemporary interior design blend so tastefully.<\/p>\n
