Last week, Zadar, Croatia hosted the CEEC, The European Council of Construction Economists<\/a><\/strong> which was attended by more than 25 professional organisations from 14 countries. We follow the activities of the CEEC on a regular basis, as our founder-owner Gy\u00f6rgy Sp\u00e1nyi takes an active role in the organisation and currently holds the position of its President. <\/p>\n

The central theme of the event was “The hospitality industry as infrastructure – the role of the building economy in creating the tourism experience”, which sought to answer how the built environment, infrastructure and conscious economic planning can become a defining element of tourism and the guest experience. The presentations at the conference showed the complex professional, economic and creative processes behind successful tourist destinations. <\/p>\n

Iconic projects and their economic impact<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the programme was a lecture by Nikola Ba\u0161i\u0107 and Ivan Kujund\u017ei\u0107, creators of Zadar’s best-known attractions, Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun. Their presentation showed how architecture can create long-term economic and tourism value for a city by combining cultural identity, community spaces and the coastal environment. <\/p>\n

Viktor Vre\u010dko’s presentation, which showed how a well thought-out architectural concept can become an experiential economic asset, was also well received, through the Dekli\u0107 Winery project. This type of development does not only serve functional purposes, but also tells a story and contributes to the tourism value of an area. <\/p>\n

Leo Penovic presented the development of the Hotel L’Hermitage in Prague, from feasibility analysis to cost control. The case study illustrated that one of the keys to the success of high quality hospitality projects is precise economic planning and consistent project control. <\/p>\n

During the event, Egemen \u00c7am also gave a presentation entitled “Marinas as High-Value Hospitality Infrastructure”, in which he illustrated the economic and touristic importance of marinas through the example of the Marina Dalmacija project. The Adriatic coastline provided a particularly relevant setting for this topic, as marinas and marina developments play a key role in the region’s tourism infrastructure. <\/p>\n

International professional cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event served as an important professional meeting point for European construction industry organisations and highlighted once again that the role of the construction industry goes far beyond traditional cost analysis: it is of strategic importance for the delivery of sustainable, economically successful and experiential developments in Europe and worldwide.<\/p>\n

It is very valuable to be able to follow the work of CEEC with such a direct professional link and to be part of the international professional dialogue that is shaping the built environment of the future.
